Joyce Ellajean Manning
April 28, 2025

Joyce Ellajean Manning, age 92, of Louisville, KY returned to her Heavenly Father on Friday, April 25, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born in Beattyville, Kentucky on October 04, 1932, to the late Roy Brandenburg and Lillie Gibson Brandenburg. Joyce was a true angel on earth - a steadfast Christian warrior whose faith and strength inspired everyone she met. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse and concluded it after more than 27 years with the Bullitt County School System. Joyce's students adored her, often staying in touch long after she retired. It wasn't uncommon for her to run into former students around town or welcome them for visits at her home. Joyce had a deep love for her mountain roots, frequently returning home to visit her mother and family. She never arrived empty-handed - always packing her trunk full of donations to share. A lover of travel and adventure, Joyce delighted in exploring new places and often invited friends along to create lasting memories. Her greatest joy, though, was her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all her heart. Joyce's kindness, strength, and spirit touched countless lives, and all who knew her will miss her dearly! Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis Manning; grandson, Drew Manning; and 3 siblings.
She is survived by her sons, Louis A. Manning Jr. (Rita), Stephen L. Manning (Beverly), and Ronald E. Manning (Corina); daughter, Deborah J. McHolland (Michael); grandchildren, Christine Cartwright (Ryan), Stephanie Self (Tracy), Maj. Ronald S. Manning, Mackenzie McHolland, Casey Lyvers (Derrick), and Justin Aldrich; sisters, Kathleen Brandenburg and Joann Farmer; great-grandchild, Tyler Self; along with many other great-grandchildren and family.
Funeral Service will be conducted on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Highway at Brooks Road). The visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm and Tuesday, April 30, 2025, from 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Brookland Cemetery. www.subfuneralhome.com
