Enough fentanyl to kill more than 10,000 people found by authorities

SANFORD, N.C. — A drug search in Lee County led to the discovery of more than 20 grams of fentanyl Tuesday, deputies said.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired registration tags driven by 36-year-old Christopher Shane Brown of Sanford. Two grams of fentanyl packaged for individual sale were found inside the vehicle.

Deputies said they executed a search warrant at Brown’s home in the 2000 block of Taton Court. Investigators found 22 grams of fentanyl, 14 grams of methamphetamine, 60 suboxone strips, and 176 grams of marijuana.

The only person inside the home during the search, 32-year-old Tyler Marie McLamb, was found in possession of two grams of fentanyl packaged for distribution, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said the amount of fentanyl recovered was enough to kill more than 10,000 people.

Deputies said Brown is charged with:


  • Felony trafficking opium or heroin
  • Three counts of felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver Schedule II controlled substance
  • Three counts of felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance
  • Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance
  • Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver marijuana
  • Two counts of felony maintaining a vehicle or dwelling place for a controlled substance
  • Two counts of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia
McLamb is charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver Schedule II controlled substance; felony maintaining a vehicle or dwelling place for a controlled substance; and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said Brown was given $200,000 secured bond and McLamb was given $70,000 secured bond.
